About Craig Schuhmann

Craig Schuhmann has been chasing trout since he was ten, first on California's Owens River with his dad, and later on the steelhead rivers of the Columbia Basin. Decades later, he still hasn't caught up to them, but he has caught more fish than he's willing to admit and lost nearly as many flies as that number would suggest - sometimes in spectacular fashion.

Craig has been guiding in the Klamath Basin since 2004, specializing on the Williamson River, Wood River, and Crystal Creek, where trout are big, water is clear, and patience is a virtue. He helps anglers of all skill levels connect with trophy trout, perfect drifts, and the quiet, soul-healing pleasures of fly fishing.

He is also a published author and editor, having written Fishing in Oregon for Moon Outdoors and served as Editor of FlyFishing & Tying Journal, one of the core publications in the fly world. He's appeared on podcasts such as Wet Fly Swing, where he shares river tactics, gear tips, and occasionally his controversial opinions on which fishing methods are best, which have sparked minor debates around campfires.

Craig studies aquatic insects, ties flies until his vice threatens mutiny, and will happily argue for hours about the proper number of hairs in the tail of a hare's ear nymph or whether owl eyebrows belong on a fly. He holds a Master's in Theology and serves as Executive Director of a local non-profit, which comes in handy when conversations drift from mayflies to philosophy. He can handle complex topics as easily as he handles a trout on a fly.

He believes in Catch and Release, careful stewardship of water and fish, and that a day on the river should leave you sore, sunburned, laughing, and maybe just a little humbled, which, let's be honest, is exactly how trout like it.
